     Eugene “Gene” Francis Modjeska, 91, of Peoria, passed away and went to be with the Lord at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at home.
     He was born in Peoria on June 28, 1920. He married Helen Frances Meyer on July 1, 1944. She survives.
     Gene is also survived by his three children, GeGe (David) Showalter of Greencastle, IN, Marty (Ron) Kruse of Scottsdale, AZ, Mark (Janet) Modjeska of Prescott, AZ; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dr. Gerald Modjeska of Lynchburg, VA.
     One brother, George Modjeska, preceded him in death.
     Gene was a graduate of Peoria High and the University of Illinois. He was U.S. Navy Ensign World War II veteran, co-owner of Maco Business Forms, member and usher at Grace Presbyterian Church, volunteer at Proctor Hospital and an avid golfer. He was the Peoria Junior Champion, Mt. Hawley Country Club Champion and won the Peoria Men’s City Title.
     Funeral arrangements were private. Memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to Grace Presbyterian Church (gracepres.org) or Hands of Love (handsoflove.org).
     Arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.

I am a volunteer at Proctor Hospital.  When I worked on Mondays I woould always to see Gene at the Entrance 2 desk.  Gene and I shared a common bond, macular degeneration.  Gene was always upbeat.  He was an inpiration to me.

I wil miss talking to him.

My heartfelt condolences to each of you in your loss.  Mr.Modjeska was a real gentleman and will be greatly missed by all of you.  My prayers are with you, but also the blessing that he is in his heavenly home.
